Feeling Safe

Do you ever feel tied down? she asked.

Never, he answered without a moment’s hesitation.

Some people get bored with only one partner. She was pushing a little.

Listen, he said, I tell people that I have enjoyed quite a few different women in my life, and all of them are you.

Now I know why people look at me in such a quizzical way, she grinned, like they can’t figure out who the heck I am.  But a person can’t stay the same, it’s essential to keep growing . . . .

My point exactly, he replied.

No wonder my friends call him a keeper, she thought.

Tied Down

Oh, the comfort – the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person – having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.

About CarolWiebe

Art entices, inspires, and delights me. Art is a vehicle for laughter, tears, wonder, enlightenment--taking me on a constant path of discovery. You can't say that about housework (except, perhaps, for the crying part).
